Garlic is high in sulfur, which accounts for some of it’s medicinal potency. The stronger the taste of the garlic, the higher the sulfur content and the better it is for you. Two other medicinally potent compounds in garlic are Diallyl Sulphides, which increase blood circulation, and Allicin, an anti-biotic, and anti-fungal compound.

Eating fresh, raw garlic is the best way to reap its health benefits. Only just one clove of garlic a day is needed to lower total cholesterol levels by 10 to 15 percent in most people. There are so many ways to increase intake of the bulb. It imparts a nice aroma and flavor to most types of food, especially sauces, salads or even soups.

Garlic is a common flavoring in food. High organosulfur compounds in raw garlic are responsible for its strong, pungent, odor. Some scientist suggest using it as a food additive, can prevent food poisoning. Fresh garlic can kill bacteria: E-coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enteritidis.

Garlic’s medicinal role in treating illness has been described in over 1000 scientific studies, and modern research into the health benefits of garlic have shown it to be beneficial in a wide variety of conditions, including high blood pressure, the common cold, cancer, as well as bacterial and fungal infections.

Eating raw garlic is the best way to get garlic’s benefits but the after effects on breath can cause the loss of friends, relatives and others close to you. Some people can get a temporary upset tummy from consuming raw garlic while others can get a rash from handling raw garlic. The freshest garlic is best for you but there’s another thing to think about, garlic in stores is not fresh.
Not only can garlic help prevent bacterial infections, but it can also help prevent fungal and viral infections. Garlic has been shown to boost the immune system. It is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium and selenium. Those nutrients help support immune system health.

Garlic supplements are said to be as beneficial to good health as eating fresh garlic cloves. They’re more likely to be tolerated by garlic-sensitive individuals and more convenient to use than raw garlic. Garlic pills minimize taste and odor and come in a variety of forms, all of which claim to be effective.

It helps to prevent platelets in blood from sticking together, lessen the risk of blood clot formation and enhances the removal of plague from the blood vessels thus benefiting the heart. It helps to prevent hardening of arteries by reducing fatty deposits on its walls and lowering high blood pressure and can be used to suppress production of harmful LDL cholesterol in the liver.
