How to Treat External Hemorrhoids

Posted on February 11, 2022 By Noor Lifestyle No Comments on How to Treat External Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoid s is a common ailment in which hemorrhoid veins swell and become inflamed. Hemorrhoids can be external or internal, and may occur either inside the anus or around the opening of the rectum.

External hemorrhoids develop just beneath your skin around your anus and they’re often not painful at all. Internal hemorrhoids grow inside your rectum and can cause significant pain.

Pain that comes from hemorrhoids tends to be either sharp or dull, and it may worsen when you’re sitting down or during bowel movements. If the hemorrhoid is very close to the skin’s surface, you might also feel discomfort when standing up.

External hemorrhoids are usually caused by pressure on the anal and rectal veins. This pressure can cause the tissue to swell, and it often occurs after straining during a bowel movement. You may be more likely to develop external hemorrhoids if:

– You strain when trying to pass stool

– Your stools are very large or hard

– You don’t eat enough fiber

– You don’t get enough exercise

– You’re overweight or obese

– You’re pregnant

You may also be at risk if:

– You sit for long periods of time without getting up to walk around or stretch your legs

– You use tobacco products (smoking and chewing)

If the swelling is painful, applying a cold compress about three times a day for 10 to 15 minutes can help.

You may also try applying moist heat to the affected area, which helps the veins to relax and lessens swelling. You might want to use an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or suppository for pain relief.

Hemorrhoids are common during pregnancy, mostly because of increased pressure on your pelvic blood vessels. The good news is that hemorrhoids go away after you give birth.

To relieve the pain and discomfort until your next bowel movement, try soaking in a tub of warm water for 15 to 20 minutes two or three times a day. Use enough water so it completely covers the area.

Another thing you can try is sitting on a small, clean towel that has been soaked in ice-cold water for five minutes. You should do this right before sitting down to go to the bathroom.

You should also avoid spending too much time on the toilet, and don’t strain when trying to pass stool. If you’re constipated, try increasing the amount of fiber you eat and drink plenty of water.

To prevent future hemorrhoids from forming:

– eat a high-fiber diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains

– Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day

– don’t sit or stand for too long without taking a break

– Exercise regularly

– avoid smoking and chewing tobacco

If the pain from internal hemorrhoids becomes severe, your doctor might recommend a cream or ointment to use on the area. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove internal hemorrhoids or fix their tethering (the last bit of flesh that attaches them inside your rectum).
