Posted on August 18, 2014 By Noor Lifestyle 2 Comments on Foods that Reduce Stress Levels
Stress is a part of life, and there is nothing you can do about it. What you can do, is to handle the stress the best way you know how. Diet and nutrition is a huge part of it, and being healthy plays a major part in how stress is going to affect you. These foods provide nutrients like zinc, B vitamins and magnesium, which are awesome for stress.

Coffee, tea with caffeine and too much sugar can also add to stress. You may get some temporary relief when you take these but it is not an overall good practice. They will affect you negatively in the long run, as too much sugar and caffeine will affect your blood sugar levels. So instead of drinking coffee, soda or eating sweets during stress, take vitamins and minerals.

Blueberries- In addition to being a superfood, blueberries are a rich source of vitamin C which is known to be effective in reducing stress levels. Blueberries contain a high amount of fiber which helps regulate blood sugar levels. Research has shown that blood sugar fluctuations are a major contributor to stress.

Beef is also a good stress relief food even though it is usually not considered when talking about health but beef contains good amount of zinc, iron, and B vitamins that also helps in stabilizing the mood. People always think that beef is not good for the body but it is actually more nutritious than chicken. The secret to making a nutritious meal with beef is to not include the fat because it is high in cholesterol.

Chocolate is great for the heart and is a global favorite, especially of those with a sweet tooth.Dark chocolate lowers blood pressure and positively affects your mood.It has antioxidants that help with weight loss; it’s recommended to have a small portion of dark chocolate for snack as part of a healthy diet.

Lean meats have the ability to combat stress thanks to their high protein content. Great sources of protein include chicken, eggs, turkey and fish. All of these lean meats contain amino acids which aid in healthy brain function.

Lemons and grapefruits-even though these are acidic fruits, they actually alkalize your body. Sailors were given lemons and grapefruits to prevent scurvy. Full of vitamin C and P, they keep your gums and teeth healthy. The pith contains vitamin P, which is what helps the gums.
