Diabetes Mellitus or diabetes is a medical condition leading to a hike or rise of glucose or sugar levels in blood. It belongs to the group of metabolic disorders our body may suffer from. The food we consume supplies our body with glucose, and a hormone called insulin breaks down the glucose and allows uptake of glucose in to the body cells, thereby supplying the body with energy.
A person having diabetes suffers from inability to produce or respond to Insulin thereby increasing the Glucose level in the body. This extra glucose is then excreted through urine. Because of this additional amount of glucose urination is more frequent and more water is flushed out of the body. As a result the diabetes patient feels .Exercise can affect your blood sugar levels for between six to eight hours afterward, but if you’re a regular exerciser, your levels may stay low for up to 36 hours! What you really want to avoid is having your blood sugar get too low during exercise. Let’s say you’re going to participate in an energetic gym class featuring weight training for 30 minutes. First, test your blood sugar level; if the sugar is low, eat a snack right before gym.
Eating a snack right beforehand is also a good idea if you want to keep your blood sugar level stable as you’re exercising. As you begin the class, make sure you keep a snack nearby in case your blood sugar levels fall, and make sure that your teacher knows how to spot when you’re having a hypoglycemic episode. After class, test your blood sugar again.
Type 1 occurs due to inadequate supply of insulin, Type 2 occurs due to cells becoming non-responsive to insulin, and gestational diabetes is a type that occurs in women during pregnancy. Other types include congenital diabetes, steroid diabetes, monogenic diabetes, cystic fibrosis related diabetes. Heredity, stress, smoking, alcoholism, lack of physical activity, and obesity are factors contributing to diabetes. Diabetes should be checked in time, or else it may be fatal leading to cardiovascular diseases, renal failures, retinal damage and neuropathy.
